What preparations should be made before conducting a pipeline pressure test?

2019-03-15

1. A written pressure test plan must be developed, with clear division of responsibilities and each person accountable for their assigned tasks.

2. All supports for pipe ends, intermediate nodes, and blocking plates—such as support piers and thrust piers—must be securely installed and meet the design strength requirements. Valves are strictly prohibited from being used as substitutes for pipe blocking plates.

3. Fill the system with water from a lower to a higher point, ensuring that all air is completely expelled from the pipes. The pressure gauge must be calibrated beforehand and should have an accuracy class of at least 1.5. Its measurement range is ideally 1.3 to 1.5 times the test pressure, and the gauge case should have a nominal diameter of no less than 150 mm. If possible, pressure gauges should be installed at both ends of the pipeline.

4. The height of backfill above the pipe reaches below 0.5 m, and the pipeline is immersed for at least 12 hours.

5. When the pipeline is under pressure, it is strictly prohibited to repair defects or tighten bolts. During inspections, tapping on the pipe walls or joints is not allowed.

6. The booster pump is installed at the lower end of the pipeline, and all valves operate smoothly and maintain excellent sealing performance.

7. Insulation measures must be taken during winter crackdowns.

8. After passing the pressure test, a reasonable drainage route should be provided.
