What are the nominal pressure, working pressure, and design pressure of a pipe?

2018-07-07

Nominal pressure refers to the working pressure of water conveyed through the pipe at 20°C. If the water temperature falls between 25°C and 45°C, the working pressure should be adjusted according to a corresponding temperature correction factor.

Working pressure refers to the continuous operating pressure acting on the inner wall of a water pipe under normal working conditions, excluding fluctuations in water pressure.

Design pressure refers to the instantaneous pressure acting on the inner wall of a water pipeline system. It is typically calculated as the sum of the working pressure and the residual water hammer pressure.

The relationship between the three: Nominal pressure ≥ Working pressure

Design pressure = 1.5 × Working pressure

Work pressure is determined through hydraulic calculations of the pipeline network.
