Under what circumstances can rubber seals still leak?

2018-03-07

During pressure testing or water filling of the pipeline, rubber-ring joints occasionally experience leaks. Upon analysis, the main reasons typically include the following scenarios:

1. Misalignment of the rubber ring: This is the most common issue, occurring during installation when the pipe material is pushed forward due to unevenness at the bottom of the trench, improper alignment of the insertion angle, inadequate beveling of the pipe edges, or incorrect positioning of the rubber ring. Additionally, if the installer fails to carefully check with a feeler gauge after completion, the ring may end up protruding beyond the expansion groove.

2. Non-conforming rubber rings: The rubber rings have air bubbles, cracks, or seams. Additionally, improper vulcanization time—either too long or too short—results in suboptimal elasticity of the rubber rings.

3. The expansion groove is too deep, and during the expansion process, equipment failure occurred. As a result, the sealing ring, instead of protruding from the groove surface as intended, ended up recessed below it, completely failing to provide a proper seal.
