What are the precautions to keep in mind when installing sludge discharge valves and air vents?

2018-03-07

Long-distance water pipelines are equipped with air vents and sludge valves. When installing these valves, the following points should be carefully considered:

The air vent should be installed at the high point, in a vertical position; for underground pipelines, the air vent must be placed inside a manhole and insulated. On long-distance water transmission lines, an air vent should be considered every 500–1,000 meters.

The installation of the sludge discharge valve should account for locations where sediment inside the pipeline can be removed and where wastewater can be drained during maintenance. The valve should be installed at the lowest point of the original pipeline, and a sludge discharge tee fitting aligned tangentially to the wastewater flow is recommended. Additionally, consider the potential impact of erosion caused by the discharge process on the foundations of nearby components. After installation, the sludge discharge valve must be closed promptly.

Since the branch pipe of the sludge discharge valve can discharge either on the left or right side of the main pipe, it’s crucial to pay close attention to the discharge direction—specifically, the orientation of the main pipe’s socket—when signing a contract with the user for custom-manufacturing the sludge discharge valve.
